The Opportunity

Work-Based Learning Coordinator — Competencies and Qualifications

Lighthouse Community Public Schools is looking for a talented Work-Based Learning Coordinator to join our team. The role of the Work-Based Learning Coordinator is to facilitate opportunities for all LCPS high school students to explore different professions and gain workplace experience by leveraging industry and community partnerships. By coordinating work-based learning experiences such as informational interviews, job shadows, and internships, the Work-Based Learning Coordinator will help students and staff connect the knowledge and skills learned in school to the working world. To do this effectively, the Work-Based Learning Coordinator will collaborate regularly with our Director of College and Career Success, CTE Pathways, teaching staff, and school administration to implement an array of meaningful experiences for students. This position will work across both of our campuses, Lighthouse and Lodestar. Funding for this position is guaranteed for the next two years (through the 2026-27 school year) and we will do our best to secure funding beyond that.time.

Your responsibilities will include:

ESTABLISHING & MAINTAINING A WORK-BASED LEARNING PROGRAM

• Manage and grow our work-based learning program in accordance with Linked Learning standards, grant requirements, student interests, and school needs
• Research and incorporate best practices from other schools into LCPS’ work-based learning program
• Prepare students, staff, and families for work-based learning opportunities through engaging, learner-centered outreach.
• Ensure that opportunities are fully accessible to all learners, especially African-American boys, students with trauma, and students with IEPs.
• Set clear expectations and guidelines for students, families, and industry partners around work-based learning experiences.
• Track student participation in work-based learning to ensure that different sub-groups of students have equitable access to these opportunities
• Build a case-management system that ensures students are successful and supported in their work-based learning experiences
• Manage student placement for internships, job shadows, and other work-based learning opportunities that require a selection process.
• Promote LCPS’ work-based learning program to students, staff, families, and the wider community by developing collateral, video testimonials, and feature newsletter updates for internal and external audiences.
• Participate and attend meetings, workshops, and conferences that support the development of our work-based learning program at LCPS.
• Stay up to date on labor market trends in the Bay Area

MANAGING INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIPS

• Build partnerships with individuals, organizations, and companies that are aligned with our Product Design Pathway at Lighthouse, our Media Arts Pathway at Lodestar, and our new Health Science Pathway at both schools.
• Coordinate logistics of work-based learning opportunities with industry partners including internships, job shadows, and classroom visits.
• Help create and manage MOUs with industry partners
• Communicate regularly with industry partners about work-based learning experiences to solicit feedback, mediate conflict/misunderstanding, and foster programmatic growth.
• Regularly gather, aggregate, report, and review student participation hours in work-based learning activities.
• Recruit board members for our Pathway Advisory Boards and run bi-annual board meetings.

ENGAGING IN PROFESSIONAL COLLABORATION

• Collaborate with school staff and site leaders to implement a sequence of developmentally appropriate work-based learning experiences in grades 9-12.
• Meet weekly with the Director of College and Career Success.
• Meet 1-2x per month with each Pathway Team; meet with content area teams and College/Career Team as needed
• Assist with data collection, documentation, budgeting, and reporting for Measure N/H, Strong Workforce, and other initiatives related to work-based learning.

• Demonstrate flexibility and ownership of our collective results.
• Administer all policies and procedures in a professional and timely manner as mandated by LCPS, and state and federal agencies (i.e., attendance records, dress code, reporting of sexual/physical abuse).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• We would love to hear from you if your educational toolbox includes the following:
• B.A. or B.S. required; Master’s Degree preferred
• 2+ years program administration and/or work with youth in an educational setting required
• Valid California Teaching Credential and/or 3+ years of teaching experience preferred
• Experience establishing industry partnerships, coordinating work-based learning opportunities for students, and/or building complex programs from the ground up
• Clear understanding of CTE pathways and/or Linked Learning
• Ability to interpret and use data for the purpose of improving student outcomes.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred
• Professional experience and/or network of existing connections in one or more of the following industries preferred:
  • Media Arts
  • Design (Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Manufacturing, Product Development, Carpentry)
  • Health Science and Medicine

SUPERVISION

This position will report to LCPS’ Director of College and Career Success

TIME COMMITMENT:

This position is 1.0 FTE (full-time exempt) and follows a 12-month (233 day) work year with significant student-free days for professional learning and collaboration with colleagues and interaction with families.

Common Building Hours: All staff members are expected to maintain common work hours.. These may be subject to change for the 2025-26SY:

8:00 - 5:00 pm Mon - Fri

Occasional evening events during the year including start of year Icecream Social, Back to School Night, Expo, and other events identified by the school calendar in advance

OUR COMPENSATION PACKAGE

At Lighthouse Community Public Schools we take good care of our employees. We provide a competitive compensation and benefits package, including a competitive salary and generous health and retirement benefits (100% employee health coverage/50% for dependents; 8% employer-matching for retirement program; medical and dependent FSA). Compensation for this role will be $85,000 - 100,000 depending on experience.
